Fans have been eagerly awaiting information about the Civilization 7 release date since Firaxis first announced that the game was actively in development. It's not hard to see why: Civilization is well-known for its prestige of being one of the best strategy and simulator series of all time.
However, outside a dev listing about the series, news about what to expect from Firaxis and this new game has been practically non-existent, leading fans to speculate whether Civ 7 is real.
Yet on May 16, the Summer Game Fest X (formerly known as Twitter) account revealed that 2K would reveal the "next iteration in one of its biggest and most beloved franchises" during the show.
In Civilization, the player takes on the role of a ruler - be it a king, queen, lord, duke, duchess, etc - and must attempt to build an empire from the ground up. However, it isn't as easy as curating a few settlements and putting down a few ruly upstarts. Other rulers are trying to do the same thing with their civilizations, and you may come to blows with them, as well as barbarians and bandits.
Civilization has had a long but exciting history as a video game series. Like any video game series, it has gone through ups and downs, but throughout it all, it has only grown more and more popular. Considering the hype surrounding its possible release this year, we wouldn't be surprised if Civilization 7 turns out to be even bigger than Civilization 6.
Civilization 7 release date estimate
Our thoughts on Civilization 7 release date is that we estimate it'll launch sometime in late 2024. We base this on a few things -- the major one being Civilization 7, which was leaked on 2K's website on June 7, 2024, during the Summer Game Fest. As of the time of writing, 2K has yet to comment on the leak.
Outside of this recent news, there has been no official confirmation of a Civ 7 release date as of now. We'll update this page as soon as we know more.
